the menihof farm

The Alpine plateau Monzoccolo with its scattered villages lies north of Bolzano. This mountain ridge is known for wide meadows and larch groves, for spruce forests and the breathtaking panorama of the Dolomites. Luckily, above the idyllic village of Avigna, we have found the old Menihof farm, situated at 1,250 meters above sea level. Situated in the middle of the forest, far away from the hustle and bustle, noise and traffic, you can enjoy the pure, clear mountain air, the open views and the lively silence of the forest. We look forward to welcoming you to this special place!

The farm

Self-sufficient living beneath spruces

Cool spring water gushes from the farm's own water source, a large rainwater tank collects water for flushing and the irrigation of gardens, flowerbeds, and fields. With the installation of a photovoltaic system and a wood chip plant, which is mainly fed with wood chips from surrounding forests, the Menihof farm has become a self-sufficient enclave in the middle of a spruce forest. The sun and woods, the earth and springs, provide us and our holiday apartments in the historic barn with everything we need for a good life. Come and experience the tranquil life in harmony with nature and its wealth!

The hosts

Family Truhlar-Schaufelberger

We, Stefanie Schaufelberger and Markus Truhlar, have two daughters and two sons and have lived at the Menihof farm since the end of 2018. Markus was born in Tyrol and has been working as a hiking-, ski- and bike guide for decades. Stefanie comes from beautiful Switzerland and finds joy and balance in being a yoga teacher and a passionate farmer.

Yesterday & today

The history of the Menihof farm

1903, which was the year the old barn was built, marks the beginning of the documented history of the Menihof farm. Until the 90s, the Mair siblings lived here without an access road to the Menihof. A field with grain and potatoes, a house garden, cows, sheep and last but not least their own water source offered them everything they needed for a modest life.
In 2016, the Truhlar-Schaufelberger, fortunately, stumbled upon the property and immediately knew what a special place they were looking at. They were committed to ensuring that the access road, which had been planned for a long time, was finally built and at the end of 2016, they began building the new farmstead and converting the barn. Starting in spring 2019, the three holiday apartments in the barn can be booked by holiday guests.
